Every household probably has a lawn mower as a way to maintain a healthy lawn. There are different types and brands of lawn mowers available on the market today. But what is the best one to suite your needs?

There are actually only two types of lawn mowers: those you push and those that you ride.  They come in different sizes and have different mechanical parts and they can even cut your grass differently.

The Push Lawn Mower

The push mower can be operated manually or it can be gas or electric powered.  The old reliable reel style of mower are certainly the most environmentally friendly as they don’t use any gas or electricity.

There are a number of features that are available with a lawn mower.  These include the ability to do mulching which means when they cut the grass, the clippings are returned back onto the lawn.  These types of lawn mowers also have bags if you would rather catch the clippings.  The clippings can be used for your compost bin too!

The rotary lawn mower is probably the most widely used.  They have real blades and cut the grass as they blade comes in contact with the grass.  Another type is the cylinder lawn mower. The grass is cut in a scissor like action and can be often found at golf courses for cutting the putting greens or for gardeners who want a cleaner cut.

Riding Lawn Mowers

If you have a large lawn you will probably want a riding lawn mower.  They are also called tractor mowers and tend to be more expensive than push mowers.

When choosing the best lawn mower for you, decide on what your needs are first and then do some research to find which lawn mower will do the best job for your yard.  After that you can make your choice based on the amount of money you want to spend.
